Distance Based Toll

The tolls on the Hanshin Expressway are based on a price unit of 10 yen per 0.1 km traveled. However, as a temporary measure to mitigate rapid price increases, a maximum and minimum price were established (1,320 yen and 300 yen, respectively for standard-size vehicles). Many exits on the Hanshin Expressway do not have a toll gate where people can pay in cash, and since the distance traveled cannot be determined, a toll equal to the farthest distance that can be traveled from an individual entrance is collected in cash at the entrance.
